VIVA – Marc Marquez managed to complete thirty-nine laps on the first day of the Misano Circuit MotoGP test on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. Marquez is a comeback after three months recovery from surgery on his right arm.
Marquez returns to ride the RC213V for the first time since the Italian MotoGP at the end of May. Marquez has a task from Honda to undergo a test at Misano for two days.
On the first day of the test, Marc Marquez managed to complete 39 laps from the targeted 40 laps. He also became the 18th fastest, 1 minute 103 seconds different from the time of the fastest racer, Francesco Bagnaia, on the Ducati team.
"It feels the same as when you arrive for the first test after the winter, it takes a little bit of time to adapt," Marquez's first impression was quoted from the team's official website.
"Little by little, I feel faster and more comfortable. But I still need to train even harder to gain long-term strength. I tried some components for Honda after a few runs. Honda has worked hard." Marquez added.
However, lap time is not the focus of Marquez who rides a black Honda motorcycle equipped with new air intakes, aero, and 'downwash duct' on the side fairing.
The official MotoGP page conveys the downwash duct is believed to function to create a ground effect when the bike is cornering and help it to be more stable and get more grip.
"Our target today was not the lap times, but to do 40 laps and understand our situation. We decided to stop early and race again tomorrow," Marquez remarked.
Later, Marquez will exercise with a physiotherapist in the evening to help recover his arm.
Meanwhile, teammate Pol Espargaro recorded a time of 1:31,707 in the afternoon test session. Still feeling pain in his right arm from a fall in Sunday's race, Espargaro was able to complete 50 laps today testing some setting options on the bike.
The Misano test will be completed on Wednesday before the team prepares for its next race in Aragon next week.
