VIVA – It turns out that Ungaran City has many tourisms that can be an option to spend weekends and holidays. Ungaran City is the capital of Semarang Regency.
The location of Ungaran City can also be considered strategic because it is on the main route from Semarang to Solo and Yogyakarta. So, Ungaran also earned the nickname "City of a Thousand Restaurants" because there are many restaurants along the route.
Here are some tourist attractions in Ungaran that are interesting and can amaze tourists.
1. Gedong Songo Temple
The name Gedong Songo comes from the Javanese language, namely Gedong which means building and Songo which means nine. This temple is a relic of the Ancient Mataram Kingdom which was built around the 8th century.
Located at the foot of Mount Ungaran with an altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level, this temple has a beautiful and cool natural scenery. Besides being able to enjoy the beauty of the temple and its nature, visitors can rent horses while taking a walk to enjoy the area around the temple.
2. Celosia Bandungan Flower Park
Celosia Flower Park in the Bandungan area is a favorite tourism for people. The location of the tourist area is in the same direction as the tourist route to Gedong Songo Temple. From the Gedong Songo gas station, go to the temple for 100 meters.
Some of the photo spots offered seem to represent your desire to travel the world. Starting from a replica of the Merlion Statue in Singapore, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Windmill in the Netherlands, to the variety of beautiful flowers on offer here.
3. Semirang Waterfall
Semirang Waterfall has a height of 45 meters and is located on the northern slopes of Mount Ungaran. Here there is a pond that is quite wide, with clear and green water. To get to Semirang Waterfall, visitors must do trekking first, with the distance to be traversed from the parking area to the waterfall about 500 meters.
4. Diponegoro Fort
One of the historical tourist attractions in Ungaran is Fort Diponegoro or Fort Willem II, which is a relic of the Dutch colonial era.
This fort is estimated to have been built between 1743 and 1746. Currently, the fort known as Ungaran Fort is used as a police station and dormitory for POLRI members.
Even so, Fort Diponegoro or Fort Willem II can still be visited by the general public to learn about the history that this fort was a transit location for Prince Diponegoro before being exiled to Makassar, as well as several other historical stories.
5. Curug Lawe and Benowo
Curug Lawe and Curug Benowo are one of the amazing tourist attractions in Ungaran. To get to this place, visitors must pass through a narrow road along the drainage flow, then pass an iconic red bridge. The distance from the parking lot to Curug Benowo is approximately 2.5 km.

6. Railway Museum
Ungaran has a train museum tourism. Before being used as a tourist spot, this railway museum was used as a train station that was active during the Dutch occupation.
Around 1970, the railway line was closed and eventually turned into a history museum that can be enjoyed today.
When visiting here, visitors can find antique relics such as steam locomotives, trains, etc. In addition, there are vintage and instagrammable spots.
7. Umbul Sidomukti
Umbul Sidomukti is a mountainous natural tourist attraction located on the slopes of Mount Ungaran with an altitude of 1200 masl. One of the attractions of this tourist spot is the swimming pool which is designed with stone walls and the water comes from the springs of the Ungaran Mountains.
Umbul Sidomukti has three terraced swimming pools with various depths. Not only pools, this Ungaran tourist spot also has plantation rides, artificial caves, and other outbound rides.
