VIVA – Semarang has many old buildings from the Dutch colonial era. Some are revitalized and used for culinary tourism spots with vintage nuances. The shape and appearance of the outside and inside still maintains like the original building.

1. Ikan Bakar Cianjur

Grilled Fish or locally known as Ikan Bakar Cianjur is located in the Old Town area of ??Semarang, opposite the Blenduk Church. Initially, this building was used as a court office during the Dutch East Indies government in 1760.

Then in 2006 the building, which was partially damaged, was renovated and revitalized into a restaurant business. According to the name of the restaurant, namely Ikan Bakar Cianjur, the main menu is grilled fish such as carp, tilapia, pomfret, and goldfish.

Other menus are Indonesian dishes such as kale, spinach, tamarind vegetables, fried chicken, and others. Enjoying eating here does feel different. Because while eating, visitors can see the interior of the colonial European-style building.

2. Oen Shop

Oen shop is a pastry shop that serves traditional Dutch pastries. This culinary place is quite legendary because it has been open since 1910 and still survives now. According to the shop owner, Oen Shop was opened in Jogja in 1910.

Previously, this store is also available in Jakarta, Malang, and Semarang. However, due to regeneration problems, only the shops in Semarang still survive.

Toko Oen Semarang occupies an old building typical of the Dutch East Indies, on Jalan Pemuda. At that time, Dutch East Indies officials made this road an elite area. The food menu is mostly old-school bread or cakes that were once victorious in their time. It's like a tonsil cake with a red topping.

Then, there are poffertjes cakes, bitterbollen, pancakes, vurchten sorbet, and other Dutch pastries placed in glass jars. The price is relatively affordable for a legendary cake.

3. Tekodeko

Tekodeko is a cafe that serves coffee and various snacks. Not only that, there is a large dining menu. The building is an old house that used to be an inn in the Old City Area.

As the name implies, Tekodeko, there are many ancient teapots placed on the wall as wall decorations. In addition to decoration, the manager also uses space such as a balcony to become a coffee shop which is the hallmark of buildings in the Old City.

Coffee is the main menu at this cafe. There are several standard menus, as well as some special menus. One of them is Javanese sugar coffee.

There are many kinds of coffee companion dishes here such as risoles, fried bananas, cassava, cakes, pastries, and others. This cafe is open from noon to midnight.

4. Pesta Keboen

The Pesta Keboen restaurant utilizes an old house that was built in 1950. Initially, it was a residence owned by Semarang residents with classical architecture.

Then over time, the building is neglected and damaged. Then, in the process, the building was owned by a resident and renovated into a restaurant. 

The vintage impression is very thick once it enters the interior. The floor is made of classic cement tiles that are often used in palace family homes.

The tables and chairs are made of old Javanese furniture. Then there are lots of vintage knick-knacks. There are telephones, tv radios, and other old-fashioned electronics.

At each guest table and chair set, there are several jars containing traditional snacks such as cassava chips and pastries. There is also a fridge filled with old slices of ice cream or local people known as Es Krim Potong.
