VIVA – Kosovo is a landlocked country in the central Balkan Peninsula. This country is also one of the youngest countries in Europe. It declared its independence from Serbia in February 2008 and became the Republic of Kosovo.

Kosovo uses the euro, and it has four bordering countries that include Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia. Kosovo is located in the Albanian region that used to follow the Ottoman government, so the majority of the population is Muslim.

More than 70 percent of Kosovo's population is under the age of 30 by 2021. It makes Kosovo the youngest country in all of Europe with the average age of Kosovo residents at only 29.1 years.

Kosovo used a map of its country as a flag design, makes it one of only two countries (the other being Cyprus) whose flag doubles as a geographic representation as it shows the country's silhouette.

Kosovo has two official languages, Albanian and Serbian. About 90 percent of the population speaks Albanian as a mother tongue. Apart from these two languages, the people also speaking South Slavic and Turkish.

4. Transactions in Euros

Although Kosovo is not a member of the European Union, they use the euro as its official currency. However, some regions also use the Serbian Dinar currency.

In Kosovo, there are many limestone caves and hiding places. The famous place is Marble Cave. The cave was discovered by Ahmet Asllani in 1966 while working in his garden. To date, most of the caves are still unexplored.

Kosovo is the smallest Balkan country but most of the country is forest. More than 40 percent of the country's land is forest and full of trees. Most of the forests are located in the southwest of Kosovo including the outskirts of Peja, Deçan, Istok, Junik, and Gjakova.
