VIVA – In the past, Indonesian people often heard the word ‘curse’ from a magician or shaman that could make someone harm, suffer, and die. There was a legend of Malin Kundang, a mother who cursed her child for being disobedient or disrespecting her mother.
A curse is known as a wish in the form of misery or misfortune that will befall on a human being. In the ancient cultures of the world's tribes, curses were also often used as a form of endless annoyance.
Here are the most terrible and legendary curses in Indonesia.
1. The Curse of Putri Pukes
Not only the legendary story of Malin Kundang, but also the story of Putri Pukes. Putri Pukes was cursed to be a stone for doing things that were not commendable to her own mother.
She kicked her mother who was praying because she was upset because her mother advised her to give up her husband who was missing during the war. It made her mother angry and cursed her to stone.
2. The Village Cursed to Stone
The next curse was carried out by a king who could not control what he said. He cursed everyone in the village to turn to stone for not wanting to marry off his daughter to a dog.
This incident began when the loom of the king's daughter fell. The greedy king said he would marry anyone with his daughter as long as he wanted to get the tool.
Unfortunately, the dog from the kingdom was the one who took the loom. Then, everyone was cursed to stone.
3. The Lost Hamlet Overnight
The name of the hamlet that disappeared overnight was Legetang. This hamlet was located in Pekasiran Village, Bantur District, Banjar Negara.
At first, this village was very prosperous because it had an area that was on the outskirts of the city and whatever was planted would grow and produce abundant agricultural crops.
Unfortunately, the behavior of the villagers was immoral. One night, when a violent rainstorm came, an avalanche immediately buried all hamlets and all the local people died, only two people alive.
4. The Curse of Separating from a Soulmate
The next curse came from Dayang Antarwati who already had a husband and at that time, there was a man who was attracted by her beauty, even though he already had a wife.
Finally, there was a fight between the husband and the man who was attracted to his wife which caused them both to die. Since then, Dayang Antarwati was a widow and stands behind the Coban Rondo waterfall.
Until now, there is a myth, if a couple comes to Coban Rondo waterfall, the couple will be subject to a curse, such as the end of the relationship.
5. The Curse of Lembu Suro on Mount Kelud
This curse was pronounced because the king broke his promise to marry Lembu Suro to his daughter, Kali Suci even bury him in a very deep well on Mount Kelud.
When Mount Kelud erupted, a kingdom that was around the mountain also disappeared from civilization.
When Mount Kelud began to increase its activity, there was a caretaker who would provide offerings. It was done so that Lembu Suro felt angry.
