Well, here are some facts about Thursday that rarely people know about.

1. Thursday, the Origin Name

Thursday comes from the word Khamsatun which in Arabic means fifth. Indeed, the names of the days in Indonesia which are adapted from Arabic and according to the calendar in the country, Thursday is the fifth day because it was the first time on Sunday.

In Indonesian, the word Thursday itself comes from the word Thor's Day where Thor is the god of thunder in Norse mythology or the ancient Norwegian nation.

In astrology, each day of the week has its own planet and the planet represents one day of the week. Like other days, Thursday reads with the planet Jupiter that’s the largest planet in the solar system.

In Hindu religious belief the planet Jupiter is called a Guru and wearing yellow and giving alms or feeding animals on Thursdays can pleasant this planet.



Not only Hindus think Thursday is a special day but also Buddhists, especially in Thailand.

In the Buddhist tradition in Thailand, Thursday is teacher's day or the best day to carry out educational and religious activities.

There religious ceremonies are usually held on Thursdays as well as graduation days in universities or schools are also always held on Thursdays.

In the Soviet Union or known as Russia, around 1970 to 1980, Thursday is considered as fish day because on this day Russian people are more encouraged to consume fish.

Fish is a mandatory menu that must be on Thursday. However, this tradition has begun to be reduced by Russian.


