VIVA – In Greek mythology, there are ancient Greek gods who are well known such as Zeus, Hades, Poseidon, Athena, Ares, Aphrodite, and Hermes.
They are included in the ranks of the 12 main gods and goddesses of Olympus whose stories are very popular in various parts of the world. No wonder the names are so familiar to the ears.
But it turns out, there are some gods and goddesses besides those 12 figures. No less meritorious in Greek mythology. Unfortunately, they are not very popular because their roles are considered small.
1. Demeter, Goddess of Harvest and Fertility
Demeter is the goddess of harvest, wheat, and fertility. She is the son of Rhea and Kronos who are Titans.
Many underestimate the existence of this goddess, but apparently, she has the power to control the harvest and the weather. For this reason, Demeter was one of the goddesses held in high esteem by the Greeks. They even built a special shrine to make offerings to Demeter.
2. Morpheus, God of Dreams
Morpheus is on duty with making the dreams of every human on Earth. Sometimes the god and goddess also sent Morpheus as a messenger conveyed through dreams.
Reported by Greek Gods and Goddesses, Morpheus used to carry out his duties in human form. Morpheus looks like a demon with wings.
3. Pan, God of the Wilds
Pan is the god of the wild and the shepherd. His appearance also reflects this. He looks like a human but with horns and legs that resemble a goat.
The name "Pan" comes from the word "panic" or panic. There are two explanations for this. First, when Zeus fought against the Titans, Pan was nearby. At that time, he screamed so loud that the Titans fled.
The second explanation is that Pan often makes strange noises at night when he is in the forest. It’s done to make wandering people panic and fear.
4. Dionysus, God of Wine
Dionysus is called the god of wine, winemakers, fertility, fruits, plants, madness, and theatre. Dionysus actually belongs to the ranks of the 12 major Greek gods and goddesses. But because he came last, he was not as popular as the others.
Originally, Dionysus was a demigod or half-god and half-human. Because he is the son of Zeus and a human named Semele, who died when he saw the original look of the god who ruled the sky. Dionysus, who was still a fetus, was sewn into Zeus' thigh and born from it.
5. Hecate, Goddess of Magic
Hecate or Hekate is the goddess of magic, night, moon, ghosts, and seances. At first glance this goddess is similar to Artemis because of her similar appearance. The difference is that Hecate always carried two twin torches in her hands.
One of the most popular stories about Hecate is that she helped Demeter to find Persephone. Hecate traces the night with her torch and discovers that Persephone was brought by Hades in the underworld.
