VIVA – Regarding the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia, the Vice President of Indonesia, Ma'Ruf Amin revokes the policy of not using mask in outdoors. Ma'ruf Amin asks the public to wear masks in open space again.
"We will continue to tighten health protocols, especially masks, (when) there is an increase, masks must be worn again. So, we will withdraw this leeway until the situation allows us to reopen," said Vice President Ma'ruf Amin on Friday, July 1, 2022.
Data from the Task Force (Satgas) for Handling COVID-19 in Indonesia shows an increase. Positive cases in Indonesia increased by 2,248 people on Thursday, June 30, 2022.
According to Ma'ruf, the government has taken steps to anticipate the surge in COVID-19 cases. One of them is by increasing the level of PPKM in areas that have high COVID-19 cases.
"We already have the measurements, in those areas there are levels, yesterday they were all at level 1. So, if there are areas that go up, the level has to be raised, then there are also restrictions according to the level," Ma’ruf Amin said.
However, the vice president hopes that the spike in cases will not get worse so as not to raise the level of PPKM. Because if the mobility of citizens is tightened again, it will have an impact on a number of sectors, especially the economy.
"We are trying not to let there be an increase until the level rises. Because we don't want to reduce people's mobility, because it affects our already good economic development," Ma'ruf Amin added.
