Jokowi: Indonesia is Ready to Become a Russia-Ukraine Mediator

VIVA – During a meeting with President of Russia Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Thursday, June 30, 2022, Indonesian President Joko Widodo or Jokowi expressed his commitment that Indonesia is ready to become a mediator between Russia and Ukraine.
“The issue of peace and humanity has always been a priority for Indonesia’s foreign policy. The Indonesian constitution mandates that Indonesia will always seek to contribute to world peace. In this context, I made visits to Kyiv and to Moscow,” President Jokowi said.
As known, during his visit to meet the Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, President Joko Widodo has a mission to create peace between Ukraine and Russia.
President Jokowi reiterated that Indonesia does not have any interests. He just wanted the war to end soon and the food, fertilizer and energy supply chains to be repaired.
"I invite all world leaders to come together to revive the spirit of multilateralism, the spirit of peace and the spirit of cooperation. Because only with this spirit can peace be achieved," Jokowi said.
While the current situation is still difficult, the Indonesian President said that it is important to continue to promote a peaceful settlement and to carry out dialogue.
"I have conveyed President Zelenskyy's message to President Putin and I conveyed my readiness to become a communication bridge between the two leaders," said President Jokowi as quoted from the official website of the Cabinet Secretariat of the Republic of Indonesia on Friday, July 1, 2022.
After the meeting with President Putin, President Jokowi and Mrs. Iriana Jokowi will visit Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In Abu Dhabi, President Jokowi is scheduled to meet with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
