VIVA – Birds are one of the animals that liked by people. Many people think that birds are harmless animals.

But it turns out, in this world there are a number of birds with large body sizes up to 2-meters high, body weights up to more than 100 kilograms, and sharp nails. Equipped with such a physique, these birds can even attack humans to the point of claiming their lives. Here are 5 deadliest birds in the world.

1. Ostrich

Although ostriches cannot fly, they have the ability to run up to 72.5km/hour. This bird is usually found in Africa. Ostrich has over 150kg weight and 2.75 meters high, and strong legs. Ostrich can give a dangerous kick if they feel threatened. Ostrich’s kick is capable of killing lions and other large predators.

2. Emu Bird

Emu birds are stocky and long-legged. An Emu can run up to 50km/h. Like the ostrich, if the emu feels threatened, they can kick their opponent out of the way.

3. Lammergeiers or Bearded Vultures

Physically, this Lammergeiers looks like an eagle. Lammergeiers are up to 1 meter long with a wingspan of 3 meters. Lammergeiers eat carrion to survive and they drop the carcass to be eaten from an 80-meter height. So, the victim's bones are exposed and they can consume the marrow.

Lammergeiers bird habitat is in the mountainous areas of Central Asia, East Africa, and Spain.

4. Great Horned Owl

Owls of this species are powerful predators often growing to over 60 cm with a wingspan of up to 2 meters. Usually, great horned owls eat small rodents and birds but they have also been known to prey on larger animals.

The gripping power of their claws is equivalent to the bite of a large guard dog. The power of this bird can damage, blind, or kill permanently.

5. Cassowary

This bird from Papua, Indonesia is known to have killed humans with a slash of its feet because the deepest part of its three toes has long spikes like daggers. The cassowary moves quickly along the narrow lane of the bush and runs as fast as 50km/h.

The most famous case of a cassowary involving death occurred in 1926, where a member of a group of teenage boys hunting a cassowary was killed after the bird jumped on him. Cassowary cut the boy's tendon with the long toenails.
