Pule cheese comes from Serbia with an average price of $600/ kilogram. Pule can be expensive due to the scarcity of one of the ingredients, namely Balkan donkey milk, which makes up 60% of Pule cheese.

Unfortunately, for right now, Balkan donkeys only have about 100 females, not all of them nursing at any given time. Because it takes 25 liters of milk to make one kilogram of Pule, the price of Pule cheese is very expensive. Pule cheese is also only made in the region of origin of the Balkan donkeys, the Zasavica Nature Reserve in Serbia.
