VIVA – Indonesia is one of the countries that occupies the fourth position in terms of the largest population spread across the world. Based on the data listed on the website of the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration, until June 2021, Indonesia's population reaches more than 270 million people.
Because of this large number of people, it turns out that not only are they in Indonesia, but also many Indonesians live in other countries for various reasons, such as work, study, marriage, and other things.
Here’s a list of several countries that have the largest Indonesian population reported through various sources:
1. Malaysia
Malaysia is another country that is closest to Indonesia. Malaysia has the largest Indonesian population. It is estimated that around 2.5 million Indonesians live in this country, mostly for work.
2. Saudi Arabia
Approximately 1.5 million Indonesian citizens have settled in Saudi Arabia for work reasons. As a country with the largest Muslim population in the world, there are many Indonesian people who decide to settle down and seek their fortunes living in a country that has a holy land for Muslims.
3. Holland
In Holland, there are about 395.000 Indonesian people living. This is related to the desire of some Indonesians who want to have a better life in the Netherlands. Not only that, the reason for working and pursuing further education is also another factor why there are many Indonesians in this country.
4. Singapore
The regional factor of Singapore, which is quite close to Indonesia, makes this small country next to the Riau Archipelago province a place to vacation and earn a living for some Indonesian people. It is estimated that around 200 thousand Indonesian people are in Singapore now.
5. Taiwan
Taiwan is a country that is the main destination for migrants from Indonesia who want to try their luck by working as migrant workers. In this country, there are approximately 161 thousand Indonesian citizens.
6. Hong Kong
Hong Kong is one of the destination countries for Indonesian migrant workers. There are around 102,100 Indonesian citizens living in Hong Kong for work. There are also those who come to this country to pursue further education.
