These cities are of course able to attract the attention of the world because of their uniqueness. The uniqueness is usually very diverse and never expected before. 

Because of the unique and weird, these cities are often used as unusual tourist destinations, as an alternative to public places to visit. Here are 5 unusual and weirdest cities in the world.

1. Tomioka, Japan

Actually, this unusual city is a forbidden zone because there is a Nuclear Power Plant (PTLN) in Fukushima.

In March 2011, the PTLN was hit by an earthquake and tsunami until it was damaged, causing the city to become contaminated. Hundreds of thousands of residents were evacuated because the area within a radius of 20 kilometers was deemed off limits.

However, a man named Naoto Matsumura chose to stay in the most unique and strangest city. The 50-year-old man is the only returning resident of the 16,000 people who once occupied the city. He was in an area without electricity and water, but Matsumura persisted in caring for the abandoned land and animals.

2. Nagoro, Japan

The city of Nagoro in Japan is a village that is very strange and unique because this city is inhabited by a lot of dolls. This village is located in Tokushima Prefecture, Shikoku Island.

According to Outlook Traveler, Nagoro would not be widely known had it not been for the services of Ayano Tsukimi, a skilled doll maker.

Tsukimi has made life-sized dolls to fill this town as the population is shrinking from year to year. Although it has been mentioned that artists in other Japanese villages have also made dolls to make them live, it is Nagoro Village that attracts tourists the most.

3. The Cave City of Matmata, Tunisia

Matmata Cave City is a city in Tunisia. Matmata is a small Berber-language town in Southern Tunisia. Some locals live in traditional structures such as troglodytes or known as living underground in caves.

In 2004, Matmata had a population of 2,116 people. Almost all people in this city live in houses in caves.

The City of Death or the city of the dead seems to be a nickname that is right to describe the city of Colma which is in the San Mateo area, California. The city has only 1,000 living residents, while the rest have died and are buried in 16 cemeteries.

The bodies buried in this city do not come from local residents, but bodies from outside the city, one of which is San Francisco. In this city, there are more than 1.5 million graves. Local residents have even lived side by side with the millions of graves.

5. Whittier City, Alaska

Whittier city is an area located in the state of Alaska, 93 kilometers from Anchorage. The population also only reaches 200 people and they live in a shared 14-story building that was originally a military barracks. There is only one that is used to enter and leave the city.
