House of Leaves is one of the scariest books ever written.

From a fairly standard horror premise (revealing the inside of a house) Danielewski spins a dizzying tale involving multiple narrators who are a little difficult to understand, typographical mysteries and repetitive footnotes that manage to drag readers into the story and then make them doubt their own perceptions of the story.

It's a trick no one else has ever done with such dramatic effect, is a participatory experience than any other piece of literature that remembers dark madness at its core, not necessarily a pleasant one.

3. Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin, Otto Penzler

Rosemary (Mia Farrow), moves into an apartment in New York with her actor husband, Guy Woodhouse (John Cassavetes). After a long struggle to have children, Rosemary finally gets pregnant.

Readers will be carried away into the atmosphere into a pregnant woman while the story of other characters is a mystery, we will be made paranoid and suspicious of the stories of other characters. However, this won't really be shown before the final act, really the last scene in the film.

4. FRIEND by Jounatan Guntur Alam

Thirty years ago, there was a murder at the Jounatan school. But the incident was covered up by the school. Not many people know, including the students there. Then, suddenly a tenth grader revealed the forbidden story to Jou. He said, the spirit of the slain victim would seek revenge.

Mass trance occurred in his school, not just once, but repeatedly. Jou's friends began to be terrorized by something unseen.

5. Ayu’s Secret by Lexie XU

On the anniversary of Leoni's death, Ayu receives a strange SMS that causes a mysterious application called 'don't click' installed on her cellphone. Through the application, Ayu finds Leoni's diary which tells of her last days before she died.

This book has a terrible story like the presence of a figure who has died. Told that Sonny couldn’t sleep. Then, he opened the window slightly, who knows the feeling of visiting him. However, he saw him catch someone standing on the terrace of his neighbor's house who had just died.

8. WINGIT by Sarah Wijayanto

This book tells the story of a family who inhabit their new home and a burial ground that can resurrect anyone who has died, in this book two-years-old Gage is killed by a speeding truck. Overcome with despair, Louis considers bringing his son back to life with the help of a burial ground.
