VIVA – Tangerang has been appointed as the pilot project location for the implementation of an unmanned electric car. This trial is a continuation of the strategic partnership of the two companies related to urban planning management and smart city development.
Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said the unmanned electric car was one of the breakthroughs to reduce carbon emissions.
"The presence of an electric car with the name Autonomous Vehicle answers the solution for a vehicle that is low in carbon emissions, reduces congestion, and is on time. Hopefully, we can show this technology at the G20 Summit. So that the eyes of the world know that Indonesia has a vision for the future and makes breakthroughs, " said Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi in Tangerang on Friday, May 20, 2022.
The BSD Green Office Park office area and the Q-Big BSD City shopping center will be the test locations for the unmanned electric vehicle or autonomous vehicle.
CEO of Sinar Mas Land, Michael Widjaja said the car will present two units in the digital area with the number of tracks adjusted to the needs.
"We only have two units; the number of tracks is adjusted to the needs. So, it's unlimited. For using this transportation, every user must have Sinar Mas Land's One Smile application," he said.
For now, there are only two routes that will be traversed by Autonomous Vehicle, namely the Q-big BSD City area and outside the area.
"We will test it first in the Q-big area, so we hope that the presence of this car will not be a short-term one, but also a long-term change in transportation," he added.
Meanwhile, the Regent of Tangerang, Ahmed Zaki Iskandar, said that this Autonomous Vehicle is a technological advancement that can simplify transportation systems that are more concerned with the environment in the future.
"This can be the latest step to change people's mindset to be more concerned with the environment," The Regent of Tangerang, Ahmed Zaki said.
"And for now, we first apply it in a small range, because for a larger range it is rather difficult, considering that this car has a very sensitive sensor, especially in other locations it is still very crowded for vehicle trajectories and the road infrastructure isn’t adequate." he added.Â
