VIVA – PT Angkasa Pura II reactivated Skytrain or Kalayang at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang on Monday, April 25th, 2022.
Executive General Manager (EGM) of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Agus Haryadi said the Soekarno-Hatta Skytrain was reactivated with the aim of making it easier for passengers to access the terminal, especially in the Eid transportation 2022.
"The concept of our Skytrain operation is supported during Eid transportation. So, temporarily, it will operate only from April 25th, 2022 until May 10th, 2022," he said.
Before Skytrain soetta airport was officially activated today, his team had a trial a week before being used. Considering that the skytrain has not been operated for two years due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases.
"Yesterday, one week before it was active, we started conducting a more massive trial to ensure all facilities operate properly, such as electricity and signals. Hope, everything will go quite well and smoothly," he said.
Later, if the movement of passengers at Soetta Airport exceeds 100 thousand per day, then his team will consider the Skytrain or Kalayang.
"We are still considering, if later the trend of passenger traffic turns out to be always above 100 thousand outside the Ramadan period, then there is a possibility that we will evaluate it, so that it can operate again outside of Eid transportation," he added.
The operational concept of Skytrain remains the same as before the COVID-19 pandemic. There are two flying units with operating hours starting at 6am until 9pm or 15 hours every day which are operated with a capacity of 176 people.
"I think this (operational hours) are sufficient because the movement of passengers at night also quite low," he said
For the Skytrain operation, start from Terminal 1 - Airport Train Station - Terminal 2 - Terminal 3 and vice versa. The stop time at each shelter only 1 minute and the time of arrival of the fly at each shelter is 13 minutes.
"Well, nothing has changed. We don't modify the operation because I think it's too risky. So, if you only operate one train set, the waiting time will be very long and it’s not effective for passenger movement," he said.
