Facts About Additional Vaccines, Including Cancer-Preventing HPV
- U-Report
VIVA – In 2022, the Ministry of Health will increase the number of mandatory routine immunizations in Indonesia, from 11 to 14 vaccines. The addition of 3 immunizations are the Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV), Rotavirus vaccine, and Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine.
The Indonesian Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that immunization was the most appropriate and inexpensive way to prevent maternal and child mortality. When disease can be prevented, the body's health will be more optimal.
"Vaccination is one of the health interventions that is cheaper and more effective than intervention when a person has been admitted to hospital," he said at the World Immunization Week press conference, a report by the Indonesian Ministry of Health's Youtube channel.
So, here are the facts regarding the additional vaccines, including Cancer-Preventing HPV:
Free Immunization
All immunization programs that are part of the mandatory routine immunization program will be free of charge with certain conditions and requirements. Routine immunization is a government program which means that people do not have to spend money to get these vaccines, including the cancer-preventing (HPV) vaccine.
For example, the HPV vaccine is required for girls in grades 5 and 6 of elementary school (SD). This is carried out in the School Child Immunization Month (BIAS) program which is held in August every year.
Prevent dangerous diseases
Not without reason, the three vaccines are proven to be able to prevent various dangerous diseases that lurk at various ages. The PCV vaccine aims to prevent pneumonia, inflammation of the lining of the brain, and inflammation of the ear caused by Pneumococcal bacteria. Rotavirus vaccine to prevent severe diarrhea and its complications caused by the Rotavirus. While the HPV vaccine to prevent cervical cancer (cervical cancer) in women.
Awarded Nationally
Starting this year, the PCV vaccine will be given nationally. This year's HPV vaccine is also given in 131 regencies/cities in 8 provinces, consisting of 4 provinces on the island of Java and 4 provinces outside Java (DKI Jakarta Province, DI Yogyakarta, Central Java, East Java, North Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Gorontalo, and Bali).
In 2023, it will be implemented in all provinces and districts/cities. Meanwhile, immunization with the Rotavirus vaccine will begin in 2022 in 21 districts/cities representing each island, and will be administered nationally in 2024.
