VIVA – President Joko Widodo has make Trunojoyo Airport, Sumenep Regency, East Java Province officially in operation on Wednesday 20 April 2022.
In that occasion, Jokowi was accompanied by Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto, State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of State Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, and East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa.
Jokowi expressed his gratitude, because the airport construction process went smoothly. According to him, this airport will meet the needs of the Madura citizens in the transportation sector.
"Alhamdulillah, Trunojoyo Airport in Sumenep Madura Regency has been completed and is ready to be used to serve the transportation needs of the people on the island of Madura and other islands around Madura," said Jokowi.
According to him, having an airport in that area is vital, especially for an archipelago country like Indonesia. The existence of an airport will be able to connect one island to another.
"As I have often said, this airport will be very significant to improve connectivity, facilitate connectivity with small islands around Madura Island and open up the isolation of remote islands around Madura Island," said Jokowi.
With the operation of Trunojoyo Sumenep Airport, it will reduce travel time to and from Madura Island. Now, according to Jokowi, Madura can be reached in a matter of hours.
"This airport will also cut the travel time from islands around the island of Madura, which if using a ship takes days and now by plane it only takes 1 hour," said Jokowi.
