Noor explained that the operation was also assisted by spectators of the international soccer competition held at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) on April 13-19, 2022.

"We praise the spectators for their cooperation. Recycling the waste is one of the efforts to reduce the amount of trash that is dumped in landfills," he stated.

Noor assessed that the stadium’s Platinum Grade Green Building certification had encouraged the spectators to ensure that their seat areas were clean when they left the venue.

At the opening of the championship on April 13, 2022, which held the matches of Atlético Madrid U18 against Bali United U18 as well as Indonesia All Stars U20 versus FC Barcelona U18, the ‘Trash Operation’ personnel collected 115 kilograms (kg) of waste.

Some 95 percent of the accrued trash could be recycled, while the rest was residue, such as cigarette butts.

Meanwhile, on the second day of the championship on April 15, 2022, the amount of trash collected reached 395.62 kg, including 303.92 kg of waste that can be recycled as well as 91.7 kg of residue.

"(Furthermore, on Sunday), it is estimated that after the evening match between Atlético Madrid U18 vs Indonesia All Stars U20, the trash collected from the spectators can reach over 300 kg," the spokesperson noted.

He stated that all of the waste was taken to several waste management facilities in Jakarta, such as the Tanjung Priok Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (3R) Garbage Dump (TPS); Papanggo Waste Bank area; as well as Jakarta Waste Solution. (ant)
