Last Thursday night, nature presented the Aurora Australis phenomenon to residents in Tasmania .
A number of residents who saw it said the Aurora Australis last night was the most beautiful and strong in recent years.
This natural light phenomenon only occurs in areas adjacent to the South Pole and North Pole.
Light appears in the form of a curtain, while flickering or rotating.
The Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) said last night's Aurora Australis was one of the most spectacular visual phenomena ever to appear, as it occurs when the weather in the sky is good.
A Tasmanian resident , Carmel Gledhill said she could see the Aurora Australis clearly without the aid of any tools.
“With the naked eye we stay directing the view to the south,” he said.
Carmel was high up on the summit of Mt Wellington to see it and she claimed to be the best and most powerful aurora she had seen in recent years.
If you missed it last night, you can see it on the Australian Bureau of Meteorology's website .
