VIVAnews - The number of those killed during the tsunami disaster in Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra, increases. However, up until today, the victims, which according to data from the West Sumatra administration reaches around 112, have yet to be evacuated.

According to Joskamatir, Chief of the Disaster Management Agency of South Pagai Utara, Siberut and Sipora subdistricts are now still inaccessible. "It's really difficult to reach the area. No one is yet capable of helping them," he said today, Oct 27.

He went on by saying that the tsunami victims cannot be evacuated through overland routes due to the remoteness of the affected area. "Machine boats are needed. Today, we're starting the evacuation," said Joskamatir.

Meanwhile, data from the Provincial Administration of West Sumatra shows that 112 people died while 502 others are still missing. On the other hand, the South Pagai Utara disaster management agency records that 81 people were dead during the disaster while 108 others are missing.
