Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, has granted Special Remission (RK) to Confucian inmates in celebration of the Lunar New Year 2576 Kongzili, which falls on Wednesday (Jan 29).
Deddy Eduar Eka Saputra, Head of the Public Relations Task Force at the Directorate General of Corrections, stated that this year, a total of 34 inmates from various regions across Indonesia received RK I, meaning a partial reduction of their sentences.
According to the Correctional Database System as of January 17, 2025, Indonesia has a total of 272,106 detainees, juvenile offenders, inmates, and rehabilitated juveniles. Among them, 52 individuals identify as Confucian.
The remission is not only a form of recognition for good behavior but also contributes to state budget savings, reducing meal expenses for inmates by approximately IDR 18,615,000.
Saputra explained that the remission period varies, ranging from 15 days to 2 months.
The Bangka Belitung Islands recorded the highest number of recipients, with 12 inmates granted remission, followed by West Kalimantan with 7 inmates, and Central Java with 3 inmates.
Minister of Immigration and Corrections, General (Ret.) Agus Andrianto, emphasized that remission serves as an acknowledgment of inmates' efforts to reform themselves through correctional programs.
"The correctional system prioritizes rehabilitation to ensure inmates recognize their mistakes and are prepared to reintegrate into society," Andrianto remarked.
He also encouraged remission recipients to continue improving themselves and becoming more productive while expressing appreciation for correctional officers and all parties involved in the rehabilitation process.
