Jakarta, VIVA – After exiting the Indonesian automotive market in 2016, Geely is making a comeback by introducing its EX5 electric SUV.

This model will be the first Geely vehicle assembled in Indonesia through the Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM) factory in Bekasi.

"Working with Handal Indonesia Motor, this factory will begin operations in the second quarter of 2025. The new facility will support growing global demand for the Geely EX5 and set new standards for electric vehicles in Indonesia," said Evin Ye, Vice President of Geely Auto International Corporation on Wednesday (Jan 22).

Geely, which also owns the premium electric car brand Zeekr, is showing its commitment to expanding eco-friendly vehicles in Indonesia.

"We want to emphasize Geely's vision to lead mobility innovation and contribute to Indonesia's economic and technological development. This launch marks a new chapter in Geely's journey as a global leader in intelligent mobility," Ye explained.

Ye also revealed Geely's aggressive expansion plans in Indonesia, aiming to open 100 dealerships in major cities within the next three years.

The EX5 is built on the Geely Electric Architecture (GEA) platform and is designed for markets beyond China, including Europe, Australia, and Southeast Asia.

The Geely EX5 offers four driving modes: Eco, Normal, Comfort, and Sport. Designed as a 5-passenger vehicle, it uses the latest short blade battery, claimed to have high energy density and long life, with a capacity of 60.22 kWh.

On a full charge, the Geely EX5 can travel up to 495 kilometers, delivering 214 hp (217 PS) and peak torque of 320 Nm. The vehicle supports both DC fast charging and AC home charging. Charging the battery from 30% to 80% takes just 20 minutes.

To enhance driving safety, the Geely EX5 is equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Blind-Spot Monitoring (BSM), Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA), and more.

For entertainment, it features a 14-inch large display powered by Meizu's latest Flyme Auto OS.

Interestingly, Geely offers a pre-booking promotion for only Rp10,000 (valid until February 12, 2025), which includes a one-year insurance package worth IDR 10 million. The Chinese automaker is also committed to providing excellent after-sales service and support.
