Jakarta, VIVA – The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI Jakarta) continues to accelerate the city’s development to align itself with leading global cities. To achieve this, the administration has been fostering partnerships with international organizations and municipal governments from modern nations.

Marulina Dewi, Head of the Regional Cooperation Bureau of DKI Jakarta, shared that throughout 2024, Jakarta has established sister city partnerships with New York City and Rotterdam.

“Our collaboration with Rotterdam focuses on capacity-building programs for DKI Jakarta’s civil servants (ASN) in flood management and river restoration efforts. By the end of 2024, we have sent 100 ASNs to Rotterdam,” Marulina revealed during the Grand Design and Regional Cooperation Kaleidoscope presentation at Hotel Borobudur, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (December 19, 2024).

Similarly, Jakarta has been engaging with New York City, sending four ASNs to intern there and learn urban management strategies. “We aim to improve Jakarta’s ranking among global cities, and partnerships like these are critical. In 2024, we also actively collaborated with 19 international organizations,” she added.

In addition to international collaborations, the province has initiated domestic partnerships. “Throughout 2024, 102 agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed to enhance public services and accelerate Jakarta’s development,” Marulina said.

Financial assistance has also been allocated to nearby regions, such as Jabodetabek. For instance, Bekasi received funding to improve its waste management system.

Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta, Teguh Setyabudi, praised the presentation event, themed “Towards Jakarta’s Five Centuries: Nusantara Identity, Pioneering a Global Megapolis.” He emphasized the importance of collaboration for Jakarta’s transformation.

“Jakarta will become a global city, and collaboration is essential. Pemprov DKI Jakarta will continue forging partnerships with various stakeholders,” he stated. Teguh also commended the 2024 initiatives, which included partnerships with 23 countries and 102 domestic collaborations.

Looking ahead, Teguh introduced the Grand Design Cooperation 2025–2045. “This roadmap is vital as Jakarta transitions into a global city. It will guide future development plans and synchronize short- and long-term strategies,” he concluded.
