KAI Prepares 52 Additional Trains for Nataru Holidays

Jakarta, VIVA – KAI to operate 52 additional trains to provide optimal service during the 2024-2025 Christmas and New Year holiday season (Nataru).

Vice President of Public Relations at KAI, Anne Purba, detailed that the additional trains will serve medium- and long-distance commercial routes, two long-distance PSO trains, and two local commercial trains.

"Each will have seating capacities of 491,976 for medium- and long-distance commercial trains, 10,600 for long-distance PSO trains, and 14,600 for local commercial trains," Purba stated in a statement on Tuesday (December 10).

The operational period for KAI’s Nataru service is set to run for 18 days, from December 19, 2024, to January 5, 2025.

As of Monday, December 9, 2024, the number of tickets sold for medium-/long-distance and local trains during the Nataru period reached 865,494 tickets out of the total 3,572,588 seats available.

Out of the 865,494 tickets sold, 850,330 were for medium/long-distance trains, representing 30.69 percent of the 2,770,864 seats available for these routes.

Meanwhile, 15,164 tickets were sold for local trains, or 1.89 percent of the 801,724 seats available.

For medium-long-distance trains, tickets can be booked up to 45 days before departure. Local train tickets, however, can only be booked up to 30 days before departure, with some trains available for booking just seven days in advance.

During the Nataru period (December 19, 2024, to January 5, 2025), KAI Group will provide a total of 44,754,280 seats.

This total includes 3,572,588 seats for KAI trains, 35,407,300 seats for KAI Commuter trains, 4,142,520 seats for Jabodebek LRT, 588,304 seats for South Sumatra LRT, 7,416 seats for KAI Wisata trains, 487,728 seats for KAI Airport trains, 29,160 seats for Makassar-Parepare trains, and 519,264 seats for KCIC (Whoosh) trains,” Anne added.

Meanwhile, KAI Group’s total planned trips during this period amount to 40,782 train journeys. These include 7,328 trips managed by KAI, 23,204 trips by KAI Commuter, 1,872 trips by KAI Airport, 5,598 trips by Jabodebek LRT, 1,772 trips by South Sumatra LRT, 36 trips by KAI Wisata, 108 trips by Makassar-Parepare, and 864 trips by Whoosh trains operated by KCIC.

“The number of ticket sales is still dynamically changing and increasing, as sales are still ongoing. KAI encourages the public to book tickets promptly and plan their holiday trips carefully, as there are still plenty of tickets available for the Nataru period,” Purba concluded.
