Prabowo Highlights Indonesia’s Renewable Energy Goals to United Nationn

Rio de Janeiro, VIVA – President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to supporting global efforts in addressing climate change and transitioning to renewable energy. The Head of State made this statement following a bilateral meeting with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres on Sunday (Nov 17), in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

“The UN Secretary-General greatly appreciates Indonesia's stance on various issues, particularly climate change. Indonesia strongly supports efforts to take steps toward reducing carbon emissions. We are determined, have plans, and possess the capability to fully transition to renewable energy,” said President Prabowo in a statement.

President Prabowo also explained that Indonesia has significant potential in green energy development, including geothermal, hydropower, solar energy, and bioenergy. He expressed gratitude for the UN Secretary-General's support for the measures Indonesia has taken. 

“Indonesia is now seen as quite important, and he hopes that Indonesia will continue to take proactive and supportive actions,” the President added. 

The meeting underscored Indonesia's position as a strategic partner on the international stage, particularly in climate change and other global policy issues. President Prabowo also reiterated his commitment to steering Indonesia toward a sustainable green energy transition as part of its contribution to global development. 

“We hope to achieve net-zero emissions. That is where we are heading,” President Prabowo stated.
