Banten, VIVA – The Baduy tribe is an indigenous community residing in Banten Province, Indonesia.

Known fo deeply rooted cultural practice and environmental harmony, the Baduy people are divided into two main subgroups; the Inner Baduy and the Outer Baduy.

The Inner Baduy follow a strict, traditional lifestyle that forbids the use of modern technology, electricity, and certain types of clothing, adhering closely to the customs passed down through generations.

In contrast, the Outer Baduy are more open to interacting with the outside world, often serving as a cultural bridge between the Baduy and the modern society.

Both groups are known for their craftsmanship, producing handmade woven fabrics, bracelets, and bags using traditional techniques that reflect their indigenous heritage.

Unfortunately, Baduy crafts were traditionally only sold when tourists visited. Recognizing this limitation, Narman, a young man from Outer Baduy, made a breakthrough by learning to use the internet and creating a website.

This platform, "Baduy Craft," expanded the reach of Baduy artisans, allowing them to sell woven fabrics, bags, and accessories to a broader market.

With a mission to promote Baduy culture, Narman's venture achieved monthly revenues up to IDR 50 million by 2018. His dedication earned him the SATU Indonesia Award from Astra, boosting Baduy Craft's visibility and growth.
