Jakarta, VIVA – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has requested that the Cooperatives Bill be made a priority for discussion before the end of his term and administration in October.

In response to the President's request, Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs, Teten Masduki, will push for the acceleration of the Cooperatives Bill, which has been one of the obstacles to budget realization in 2024.

Minister Masduki stated that he has coordinated with the Minister of Law and Human Rights (MenkumHAM), Supratman Andi Agtas, to discuss the Cooperatives Bill.

"I had a discussion with minister Agtas yesterday. He had met with President Jokowi and was asked to prioritize the completion of the Cooperatives Bill," the minister said in Jakarta on Wednesday (Sept 4).

Following his meeting with Minister Agtas, Minister Masduki confirmed that the Cooperatives Bill has become a priority for President Jokowi and that the process must be accelerated to ensure its completion.

However, Minister Masduki could not confirm whether the discussion of the Bill would be completed before President Jokowi's term ends.

He stated that further coordination and discussions with Minister Agtas are still needed.

The amendment to the Cooperatives Law is considered crucial for optimizing the role of cooperatives in the national economy.

The revision currently being discussed is the third amendment to Law No. 25 of 1992, which has been neglected and has not received sufficient attention. Cooperatives have significant potential to become a pillar of the national economy.
