Jakarta, VIVA – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif announced the plan for oil production from six new fields, projected to increase national oil lifting with a capacity of approximately 100,000 barrels per day (BOPD).

"In the relatively short term, there are six prospects that will hopefully start production by 2028. The amount is approximately 100,000 barrels," Minister Tasrif said in a statement on Sunday.

He stated that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources continues to encourage various efforts to increase national oil production.

This step is expected to have a positive impact on national energy security and reduce dependence on oil imports.

The minister said the six new fields are projected to start production between 2024 and 2027.

"This plan is expected to provide a significant boost to national oil production," he remarked.

The six new fields include Forel, which is estimated to start production in the fourth quarter of 2024; Ande Ande Lumut in the first quarter of 2028; Singa Laut Kuda Laut in the fourth quarter of 2026; Hidayah in the first quarter of 2027; BUIC in the third quarter of 2024; and OO-OX in the first quarter of 2026.

He then revealed that international sanctions imposed on Russia are one of the challenges in developing these new fields.

The Singa Laut Kuda Laut field is one of the projects affected, causing the estimated on-stream time to be delayed until the fourth quarter of 2026.

In addition to developing new fields, he’s also focusing on increasing the recovery rate from existing wells.

To boost oil and gas production, Minister Tasrif revealed that the government plans to reactivate 1,000 to 1,500 inactive wells annually as part of a short-term strategy.
