IOC Chief Honors Prabowo Subianto with Special Award

Paris, VIVA – The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, presented a special award to Indonesia's Defense Minister and President-elect, Prabowo Subianto. The two met at the Hotel Du Collectionneur in Paris on Saturday (July 27).

The award given was in the form of a plaque medal. Bach explained that the plaque was designed by the founder of the IOC, Pierre de Coubertin, as a historical memento in Paris.

The IOC was officially established on June 23, 1894, at the University of Sorbonne.

“This is a medal designed by our founder Pierre de Coubertin to commemorate the founding of the IOC here in Paris at the University of Sorbonne on June 23, 1894,” Bach said in a statement.

During the meeting, they also discussed international cooperation in advancing sports and providing inspiration for young people around the world.

“Thank you very much. It was a great honor, a great joy for us. Welcome to the Olympics, a beautiful opening,” Bach remarked.

Prabowo Subianto then inquired about the total number of countries participating in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Bach explained that a total of 206 countries would be participating in the prestigious global event.

“206. We have all the athletes from all our national committees totaling 206,” Bach answered.

As information, Indonesia is sending 29 athletes to the Paris 2024 Olympics, competing in 12 different sports.

The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises and Chairman of PSSI, Erick Thohir, and the Chairman of KOI, Raja Sapta Oktohari.
