United States – The United States (US) President Joe Biden stepped down as the Democratic presidential candidate on Sunday (July 21).
Joe Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the best person to defeat Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in November.
“I want to give my full support to Kamala Harris to be the Democratic presidential nominee this year. Democrats, it's time to unite and defeat Trump,” Biden said on his X official account.
Biden and Trump were essentially neck-and-neck until their first debate, but the incumbent's weak performance effectively made this election a referendum on the viability of the Democratic candidate for the next four years.
Trump, who in the debates showed many lies about his record and presidency, gained enough support in battleground states to decide the election, which will be followed by senior party leaders.
Trump also reacted to Joe Biden's resignation, saying the US president was unfit to lead America again.
“Everyone around him, including the doctors and the media, knows that he's not capable of being President, and he's not,” Trump remarked.
