Automaker VinFast Builds EV Assembly Plant in Subang

Subang – Vietnamese automake, VinFast Auto officially entered the Indonesian market earlier this year, offering a variety of electric cars to consumers in the country.
The electric car options include models VF 5, VF e34, VF 6, VF 7, VF 8, and VF 9. This showed VinFast's commitment to pushing Indonesia towards Net Zero Emissions.
VinFast also will start the construction of its first electric vehicle assembly plant in Indonesia. This is marked by the groundbreaking ceremony in Subang, West Java.
Nguyen Duc Thanh, Senior Advisor to the Vingroup Chairman and CEO of Vgeen Global Charging Station Jsc, stated that the company is investing USD 200 million, equivalent to IDR 3.2 trillion, to build the electric vehicle production plant, which will have a capacity of 50,000 vehicles per year.
"The investment in this production plant amounts to 200 million dollars and will have an annual production capacity of 50,000 right-hand drive vehicles, including design development and sales," Thanh remarked on Monday (July 15).
"This VinFast electric vehicle production plant is specifically designed for the Indonesian market," he added.
Occupying a 170-hectare site, the production facility will include several areas such as a Body Shop, General Assembly Shop, Paint Shop, testing area, and more.
"The production plant in Subang is set to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2025," Nguyen remarked.
On the same occasion, Moeldoko, Indonesian Chief of the Presidential Staff stated that VinFast's presence will have a positive impact on the local economy and create new job opportunities.
"We believe that VinFast's presence will bring technological innovation and knowledge transfer that are essential to enhancing the competitiveness of the national automotive industry," Moeldoko stated.
This strategic step highlighted VinFast's commitment to expanding its presence and supporting the growing electric vehicle industry in Indonesia.
The project also aimed to have a significant impact in promoting environmentally friendly transportation in Indonesia.
