Jakarta – Indonesia's Chef de Mission (CdM) for the Paris 2024 Olympics, Anindya Novyan Bakrie believes badminton can surpass the achievements at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
32 years ago, Susi Susanti and Alan Budikusuma won gold medals at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
Susy Susanti won the gold medal after overthrowing South Korean representative, Bang Soo-hyun, with a score of 5-11, 11-5, 11-3.
Meanwhile, Alan Budikusuma won the gold medal after defeating fellow Indonesian representative, Ardy B. Wiranata with a score of 15-12, 18-13.
"Our challenge is what happened in 1992 when badminton sports got two golds, hopefully this year it can be more than that," Anindya Bakrie said in a statement, Friday (July 12).
However, Bakrie revealed that getting two gold is not an easy thing. However, he's optimistic that the nine Indonesian representatives are the best badminton athletes and can get the best performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
"This is the time for us to prove we can win. I see this badminton has extraordinary enthusiasm. They want to be the best in the world, not only participate in competitions but also win championship," he concluded.
