OJK Blocks 6,056 Bank Accounts Related to Online Gambling

Jakarta – The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has blocked 5,000 bank accounts suspected of being involved in online gambling.

Dian Ediana Rae, Executive Head of Banking Supervision at OJK stated that his company has requested banks to block accounts related to the eradication of online gambling.

"Regarding the eradication of online gambling, which has a broad impact on the economy and the banking sector, at OJK's request, banks have blocked 6,056 accounts based on data provided by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics," Rae said in a press conference on Monday (July 8).

He mentioned that they had asked banks to close accounts within the same Customer Identification File (CIF) suspected of online gambling transactions.

Earlier, Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) urged all Indonesian citizens to unite in eradicating online gambling, as it can have very dangerous effects on society.

The head of state believes that there is no need for people to engage in gambling, whether online or offline. There are dangerous effects when someone involved in gambling.

President Jokowi highlighted that the negative impacts include the loss of property, family breakdowns, and an increase in crime and violence in society.

"Gambling is not just about risking money; it's not just a casual game with prizes. Gambling risks the future, including one's future, the future of the family, and the future of our children," the President said some time ago.
