Apple CEO Tim Cook to Visit Indonesia for Investment Discussion

Jakarta – Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Budi Arie Setiadi confirmed that Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook visit Indonesia today (Wednesday, April 17).

The Minister further said while visiting Indonesia, Tim Cook will meet President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). They may discuss a chance to Apple put investment in Indonesia.

The investment, such as the development of digital talent through the Apple Developer Academy, which has been run in Tangerang Regency, Banten, and Batam. It's expected to be expanded to other areas.

In addition, Minister Setiadi said that it's possible to discuss the plan to build a factory for iPhone in Indonesia.

"The investment to be announced, there are still possibilities (to build an iPhone factory). We just need to see how the approach is. Because, we know, many iPhone users in Indonesia. So, there will be a surprise for us," Minister Setiadi remarked.

Earlier, Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook was in Hanoi, Vietnam to meet Apple users to better understand how they work.

As known, Vietnam as a center manufacturing center for iPhone makers outside of China in recent years, with suppliers such as Luxshare, Foxconn, Compal, and GoerTek operating factories in the country.

Tim Cook will also meet with students and content creators during his visit there. 

"We'll be improving relationships with local (iPhone) supply companies in Vietnam, as well as clean water projects, and educational opportunities," he said, as quoted by Aljazeera.
