Russia – Russia successfully conducted a test launch of the Yars intercontinental ballistic missile on Friday, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced.
The ministry released a video showing the launch of the Yars missile, which was equipped with detachable warheads.
According to the ministry, the test launch took place at the Plesetsk cosmodrome in northwestern Russia. The missile successfully hit the target in Russia’s far eastern Kamchatka Peninsula.
The statement explained that the distance between the two regions is known to exceed 6,700 kilometers.
Yars is a Russian thermonuclear-armed intercontinental ballistic missile with multiple freely targetable warheads, capable of reaching targets at distances of more than 11,000 kilometers.
The Russian government also stated the purpose of the test. This activity is also emphasized as one of the government's efforts to moderate its defense system.
"The purpose of this launch is to confirm the tactical, technical and flight characteristics of this modern missile system. All work has been fully completed," the ministry said.
