Malang – Andrie Wibowo Eka Wardana, the Mount Bromo arsonist using a flare, has officially been sentenced to 2,5 years or 30 months in prison, along with a fine of IDR3.5 billion or an alternative of 6 months imprisonment.
The verdict was pronounced by the Chief Judge of the Kraksaan District Court, I Made Yuliada, leading the session with two other panel members in the courtroom in Probolinggo on Wednesday.
The trial was attended by two Public Prosecutors from the Probolinggo District Attorney's Office.
"Imposing a penalty on the defendant with a prison term of 2,5 years and a fine of IDR3.5 billion," said Made Yuliada while reading the verdict.
In response to this, Public Prosecutor I Made Deady Permana stated that regarding the judges' decision, they are currently reconsidering and will also submit it to their superiors.
"We're still considering it, and if there are other legal efforts, we will appeal. Obviously, we will submit the decision first to the head of the Probolinggo District Attorney's Office," Permana informed.
Earlier the savanna area, Teletubbies Hill, in Mount Bromo caught fire in September 2023. The fire was caused by a group of visitors conducting a pre-wedding photo session with a lit flare.
As a result of the incident, the Wedding Organizer manager was named a suspect. The fire caused by the flare engulfed an area of 1,241.79 hectares in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park.
Before the case files were declared as P21 (ready for trial), the Probolinggo District Attorney's Office had prepared three Public Prosecutors to handle this case.
In the sentencing hearing held on Monday (January 15) the Public Prosecutors demanded a 3-year prison sentence and a fine of IDR 3 billion, which could be substituted with imprisonment for 6 months.
