Jakarta – Vice presidential candidate number 1, Muhaimin Iskandar, also known as Cak Imin, has emphasized the need to address the low carbon development in Indonesia by preparing for new renewable energy (NRE).

However, he highlighted that the current usage of NRE is decreasing rather than increasing. Cak Imin mentioned that carbon-based energy is not the primary solution but has been the backbone of Indonesia.

"The most crucial aspect is to prepare for the transition to new and renewable energy; unfortunately, the government's commitment this time is not serious," Muhaimin said during the second vice-presidential debate at JCC Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Sunday.

Cak Imin further explained that the actual drivers of carbon energy in Indonesia, namely new and renewable energy sources, are experiencing a decline.

This is attributed to the lack of seriousness in addressing the issue by the current government.

"The target for new and renewable energy, which we should have set at 23 percent by 2025, has been reduced to 17 percent," Cak Imin remarked as expressing concern over the government's apparent lack of commitment.

Cak Imin's statements underscore the importance of transitioning to sustainable energy sources and the necessity of addressing environmental issues through policies such as carbon taxes.
