Thousands of Houses Affected by Huge Flood in Jambi
- Syarifuddin Nasution (Jambi)
Jambi – Huge flooding in Jambi City hit residential areas, leaving thousands of houses affected. Luckily, there were no casualties, but the incident paralyzed the community's economic access.
Gazali, Head of Pelayangan Sub-District of Jambi City, stated that flood anticipation preparations had been made with his subordinates.
People who want to evacuate have been advised and evacuation posts have been prepared to accommodate them.
"We have prepared evacuation posts if there are houses affected by flooding, and evacuees will come after we appeal to the community, especially in Pelayangan Subdistrict," Gazali said on Tuesday.
Gazali added that the number of houses affected by flooding in Pelayangan reached thousands, with dozens of houses submerged up to the height of an adult.
Residents' transportation is currently disrupted, with some of them having to use boats to go to work or sell.
"Thousands of houses were affected by the flood, and a total of 29 houses were flooded," Gazali informed.
Flood waters continue to rise into residential areas, with water levels reaching more than four meters. Some areas were even submerged up to three meters.
The flooding was caused by the overflowing Batanghari River, and if major flooding occurs in neighboring districts such as Bungo, Tebo, Batanghari, and Muaro Jambi, Pelayangan Subdistrict will be further affected.
"We only assist houses affected by the flood," he concluded.
