Bandung – Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) formed an investigation team with several stakeholders related to the accident between the Turangga Train and the Bandung Raya Commuterline Train.

Raden Agus Dwinanto Budiaji, Executive Vice President Corporate Secretary of KAI, said that the parties that will be involved are the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT), Indonesian National Army-Police, National Search and Rescue Agency, Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation, and various other related parties.

"This is a form of KAI's seriousness in finding the source of the cause of the accident so that it can be evaluated immediately to minimize the occurrence of similar accidents in the future," Budiaji said in a statement on Friday.

According to Budiaji, the KAI team is in the process of evacuating the two trains and it's estimated that in the next few hours, the two trains can be towed to the nearest station.

After that, the relevant technical team will check the condition of the tracks at the accident site. "It's expected that soon the railroad can be operated again."

Budiaji added, KAI management has also made various efforts, to reduce and minimize the potential for train accidents. One of the efforts made is to improve the communication system, train travel, and various other technical matters.

"KAI is very serious about providing safe, comfortable, and timely train travel services for passengers. We apply zero tolerance to accidents, by prioritizing the safety and security of train travel," Budiaji explained.

"We are committed to resolving this incident immediately so that train travel can gradually recover and return to normal," he continued.

In the deadly accident, there were 287 passengers on the Turangga train and 191 passengers on the Commuterline train. Around 33 passengers suffered minor injuries and have been taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Currently, some of them have returned to their respective homes.  Meanwhile, the death toll amounted to four people, all of whom were KAI officers consisting of machinists, assistant machinists, stewards, and security.

To overcome the journey of several other trains that will pass on the route, KAI is making efforts to engineer the operation pattern in the form of rotating. In addition, there is a diversion using other transportation.
