Stop Smoking

dr. Tirgari's number one advice for preventing cancer is to stop smoking in any form. He advises people to stop smoking, vaping, or even hookah because it is bad for the lungs and can cause permanent damage.

"Anything that shouldn't be going into your lungs, stop," he remarked.

In Australia, 90 percent of lung cancers in men and 65 percent of lung cancers in women are estimated to be caused by smoking, according to Cancer Australia.

Eat Regularly & Exercise

It's no surprise that eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly comes in second.

dr. Tirgari says that obesity has been linked to several types of cancer, including liver, kidney, and gallbladder cancer, so keeping fit is the best way to lead a healthy lifestyle. "Control your weight and exercise,"

Processed meat

Next, dr. Tirgari recommends avoiding the consumption of processed meats, such as ham and bacon, at all costs.

"The World Health Organization (WHO) did a study that showed that salami and all kinds of bacon and cured meats increase the risk of colon cancer, and it's true," the doctor emphasized.

"Take these foods out of your diet and you will lead a healthier life,"

Practice Safe Sex

Few people understand the importance of practicing safe sex, as STIs can potentially cause disease or cancer.

"We all know the risks of HIV, but did you know that hepatitis and HPV are also linked to unsafe sexual practices?" dr. Tirgari said.

Hepatitis greatly increases the risk of liver cancer, while HPV can cause cervical cancer, "If you are at risk, you may want to consider getting vaccinated as well,"

Finally, sunscreen should be worn daily, regardless of the season, to lower the risk of developing skin cancer.

"You should wear it every time you leave the house, whether the sun is shining or not," the doctor stated.

dr Tirgari continued: "Skin cancer rates have skyrocketed and sunscreen is your best protection. I use it almost every day."

Sunscreen should be applied 20 minutes before outdoor activities and should be reapplied every two hours.
