Kuwait – The Manpower Minister, Ida Fauziyah made a working visit to Kuwait and met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Kuwait, Lena Maryana to discuss improving cooperation in the Indonesian Migrant Workers' protection in Kuwait.
"There are two agendas to be carried out in Kuwait, namely a business meeting of the Indonesian Migrant Worker Placement Company (P3MI) with partners/agencies or employers in Kuwait, and the socialization of Minister of Manpower Regulation (Permenaker) Number 4 of 2023 concerning Social Security for Indonesian Migrant Workers," the Minister said in a statement here on Sunday.
For the first agenda, the Ministry of Manpower aims to expand employment opportunities in the formal sector.
"It is time for Indonesia to gradually facilitate the opening of job opportunities in the formal sector so that Indonesian Migrant Workers who are placed are Migrant Workers who have adequate competence," Minister Fauziyah stated.
The Minister continued: "We consider that the competence of Indonesian Migrant Workers is a major part of self-defense, whereby having work competence, Indonesian Migrant Workers have protection for themselves."
The second agenda, Minister Fauziyah said that it is important for Indonesian Migrant Workers in Kuwait to know that the regulation in the form of Permenaker Number 4 of 2023 which is a replacement for Permenaker Number 18 of 2018 provides principles of comprehensive and affordable labor protection.
As information, Permenaker Number 4 of 2023 presents three employment social security programs, namely Work Accident Insurance (JKK), Death Insurance (JKM), and Old Age Insurance (JHT).
"With the presence of these three employment social security programs, Indonesian Migrant Workers can get complete employment social security protection from before, during, and after work,"
The Minister also hopes that various services for Indonesian Migrant Workers can provide better welfare for them.
