Jakarta – A delegation from United Kingdom (UK) artificial intelligence (AI) organizations will be in Jakarta on September 25-27, 2023 to do the first AI mission to Indonesia

This mission aims to share best practice across the technology community to help realize the desire of Indonesia and United Kingdom to build an inclusive digital ecosystem

The UK delegation will meet with several Indonesian stakeholders, including the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), GoTo, and the Indonesia Artificial Intelligence Society.

The mission also comes ahead of the first AI Security Summit to be hosted by the United Kingdom on November 1-2, 2023 in London.

Home to some of the best research institutions in the world, and one of the top three rankings in the Global AI Index 2022, the UK has world-leading capabilities in AI-related science.

The eight organizations taking part in the mission represent a wide range of expertise, namely education & training, health technology, and defense. As information, included in the delegation was a representative from the Alan Turing Institute.

By fostering partnerships with their Indonesian counterparts, both in a research and technology commercialization capacity, the delegation is looking to identify areas of joint work to harness the power of AI for the good of society.

The Deputy British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste, Matt Downing explained this was a key element of the Indonesia-UK Partnership Roadmap.

"Enhancing cooperation in digital is a key element of the UK-Indonesia Partnership Roadmap," Downing said.

According to Downing, the United Kingdom has world-recognized expertise in AI and a rich history in this field, "I was also fortunate enough to meet some of the organizations in Indonesia's rapidly growing AI ecosystem."

Moreover, the visit of the UK Artificial Intelligence delegation demonstrates a commitment to partnering with Indonesia in realizing the digital potential of both countries, as well as working together to ensure the safe and responsible development of AI on the global stage.

"I look forward to an enhanced UK-Indonesia technology partnership, including as a result of this visit," Downing emphasized.
