Thailand – A massive explosion on Saturday at a fireworks warehouse in southern Thailand has killed at least nine people and left over 100 injured.
Narathiwat province's Public Relations Department stated that at least 118 people were injured, and more than 200 households were affected.
Footage posted on social media showed a huge plume of smoke over the area and many damaged buildings, cars, and motorbikes, as well as rubble-strewn streets. Many of the houses and other properties have collapsed roofs and walls.
This explosion caused damage across an area of about 500m (1,640ft), officials said.
The Provincial Governor, Sanan Pongaksorn said that the explosion was likely triggered by ongoing construction work at the warehouse, with sparks from metal welding causing fireworks stored inside to catch fire and explode.
As information, the owner of the fireworks warehouse has yet to clarify or take responsibility for what happened.
