Jakarta – The FIBA Basketball World Cup is one of the most highly anticipated basketball events this year, as it offers a glimpse at how far various countries have evolved in the sport.
Meanwhile, FIBA Board Member, Erick Thohir said that Jakarta Indonesia ready to welcomed the players that participating in FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, on August 25 to September 3.
The Indonesia Arena is an indoor stadium with a capacity of 16,000 spectators at Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan.
"We have a magnificent new indoor stadium. Indonesia will be in the spotlight because it hosts the 2023 Basketball World Cup," Thohir said in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday.
As information, Erick Thohir welcomed the arrival of five representatives from eight participating countries, namely Spanish Ambassador Francisco Aguilera Aranda, Vazken Kavlakian (Chargé d'Affaires of the Lebanese Embassy), Mahdi Rounagh (Chargé d'Affaires of the Iranian Embassy), Lindolpho Cademartori (Deputy Chief of Mission of the Brazilian Embassy), and Mark Strasser (Chargé d'Affaires of the Canadian Embassy).
"These friendly countries are eager and ready to enliven the Indonesia Arena when their country's team competes." he said.
"This is a rare opportunity. Although we are co-hosting with Japan and the Philippines, the moment to host the Basketball World Cup may not come for another 10 or 20 years. This is our chance to show Indonesia's progress in the international eyes,"
A total of 32 countries are competing in the FIBA Basketball World Cup which takes place in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines.
Jakarta as the host will hold preliminary round matches in two groups, namely Group G consisting of Spain, Iran, Ivory Coast and Brazil. While Group H contains Canada, Latvia, Lebanon, and France.
