Jakarta – Indonesia and Malaysia have signed a cooperation agreement on education. This was done when Malaysian Higher Education Minister Dato Seri Mohamed Khaled Nurdin visited Indonesia on July 16-18, 2023.
"The higher education sector between Malaysia and Indonesia is a new era for cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia," said a statement from the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education on Tuesday.
"The Ministry of Higher Education through its institutions and Malaysian universities have exchanged four MoAs, five MoUs, and one MoC."
The main focus of the MoA, MoU, and Moc exchanges is collaboration between Indonesia and Malaysia in the field of education. Especially in the field of science and technology.
"The field of development and innovation not only impacts higher education institutions in Malaysia but can benefit students from both countries," the Minister stated.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Higher Education Research and Technology (Ristekdikti), Nizam, said that cooperation in higher education between Malaysia and Indonesia is very close.
"There is a lot of cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia. There are currently 50 MoUs between Malaysia and Indonesia. With this MoU, it shows that the cooperation between these two neighboring countries is very close in the world of education," Nizam said in a press conference held in Jakarta.
Nizam also added that around 10-11 thousand Indonesian citizens are in Malaysia for education. Therefore, he hopes this cooperation program can improve human resources, especially in ASEAN.
"So, this university cooperation will be very beneficial and impactful for the progress of ASEAN and the community," Nizam remarked.
