Minister Ensures Availability of Qurban Livestock Ahead Eid al-Adha

Jakarta – Ahead of Eid al-Adha 2023, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian ensures that the availability of Qurban livestock will be fulfilled. 

"Based on data from the Ministry of Agriculture, the total availability of sacrificial animals, both goats, and cows, reaches 2.7 million heads," the Minister said at the Regional Inflation Control Coordination Meeting, at the Ministry of Home Affairs Office, Jakarta, Monday. 

"Meanwhile, the number of sacrificial animals needed is only around 1.7 million heads. Thus, it can be concluded that the stock of sacrificial animals for this year's Eid al-Adha celebration is surplus," he added. 

Minister Karnavian emphasized that local governments should pay attention and calculate the number of Qurban livestock needed during the Eid al-Adha celebration.

For the distribution of sacrificial animals, the Minister also appealed for good cooperation between the regions and livestock entrepreneurs. This is an effort to create the right distribution of sacrificial animals. 

"So, later we can encourage cooperation between regions to convey to livestock entrepreneurs to take from surplus areas to deficit areas," he said. 

On the other hand, Minister Karnavian also asked local governments to be aware of foot and mouth disease (FMD) that can attack sacrificial animals. 

FMD is a viral infectious disease that is acute and highly contagious. This disease generally affects all sacrificial animals such as cows, buffaloes, pigs, goats, and sheep.

"Ahead of Eid al-Adha, we need to take care of sick sacrificial animals, because there are still 20,029 mouth and hoof diseases in 17 provinces that have not been cured, don't let it become a sacrifice then have problems," he added. 

He also urged all levels of society to be more observant and thorough in looking at the health of Qurban livestock to be slaughtered, "This skin disease that occurs on the island of Java, this is so that the disease does not spread, if it is used as Qurban livestock, put together with others it can also be a problem.”
