Several Agreements Reached by President Jokowi and Malaysian PM

VIVA – The Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) already met the Malaysian Prime Minister (PM), Dato Anwar Ibrahim on Thursday. This meeting was a vice-versa visit because the Malaysian PM visited Indonesia last January 2023. 

"It is an honor for me, and my delegation to visit Malaysia, as a vice versa visit because Prime Minister Ibrahim visited Indonesia last January," President Jokowi said on Thursday. 

During this meeting, the head state discussed several agreements that had been reached with PM Anwar Ibrahim. One is the completion of territorial sea boundary negotiations in the Sulawesi Sea, southern Malacca Strait after 18 years of negotiation process. 

"Alhamdulillah, this (negotiation process) has run smoothly because Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and assisted by the ministers," he said.

Obviously, President Joko Widodo also hopes that other border negotiations including on lands such as Sebatik and Sinapad can soon be completed as well. 

In addition, there is the completion of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for border crossing agreement, border trade agreement, halal certification, and also investment promotion cooperation.

Furthermore, President Joko Widodo also appreciated PM Ibrahim's commitment to the protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers in Malaysia. 

"Regarding the protection of Indonesian migrant workers, I really appreciate Datuk Sri Anwar Ibrahim's commitment to strengthen the protection of Indonesian migrant workers and fair law enforcement for Indonesian workers," President Widodo informed. 

It is known that Malaysia is committed to supporting it and also fair law enforcement. Also, the establishment of a bilateral special mechanism to resolve the problems of Indonesian migrant workers. 

"I also encourage the community learning center on the peninsula to be realized immediately and also Indonesian citizens who are in the Immigration depot can also be immediately repatriated, and the one channel system must be optimized," he said. 

Then, President Widodo also see the Indonesia-Malaysia collaboration against palm oil discrimination must also be strengthened. So, commodities produced by the two countries are not discriminated against by other countries.
