Indonesian Contingent Consists 580 People for 2023 ASEAN Para Games

VIVA – The Indonesian contingent consists of 580 people – Athletes, Officials, and Escorts – for the 2023 ASEAN Para Games in Cambodia which will take place from June 3 to 9. 

As quoted from the Indonesian National Paralympic Committee (NPC) in Jakarta, Monday, May 29, as many as 268 people from the total contingent members are athletes who will compete in 12 ASEAN Para Games 2023 sports.

The sports include para-swimming, para-athletics, para table tennis, para-chess, CP football, boccia, para weight lifting, sitting volleyball, goal ball, blind judo, wheelchair basketball, and para-badminton.

NPC targets Indonesia to maintain the overall championship at the ASEAN Para Games Cambodia 2023. Indonesia's target is to win 121 gold, 94 silver, and 84 bronze from 540 numbers competed.

In the last two editions, Indonesia obtained the overall champion status in a row, namely at the ASEAN Para Games Malaysia 2017 and Indonesia 2022.

The Indonesian team will arrive in Cambodia on May 31 and begin training with the first match starting on June 3, 2023.

Moreover, based on the official Instagram account of the 32nd SEA Games and 12th ASEAN Para Games Cambodia 2023, the number of Indonesian contingents is the second largest after Thailand. 

Thailand sent 629 contingents, and the Cambodian host team included the third largest contingent with 343 people.

The Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo held a ceremony to release the Indonesian contingent to participate in the ASEAN Para Games at Surakarta City Hall. 

He said the preparation of the athletes had been carried out since 2022 through an uninterrupted national training camp.

"This is one of the implementations of Presidential Regulation Number 86 of 2021 concerning the Grand Design of National Sports. Therefore, we together must express our gratitude to Mr. President Joko Widodo to produce optimal achievements at international multi-events," he remarked. 

The minister also hopes that the ASEAN Para Games and Asian Para Games events can be used as intermediate targets for the upcoming Paralympics, "Therefore, strive to compete as much as possible and prioritize sportsmanship because the results of the ASEAN Para Games can be used as a benchmark for the struggle towards the upcoming Olympics,"
