VIVA – India recorded 5,880 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, which set a record after the discovery of the Arcturus sub variant or XBB 1.16.
Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilizers of India, Mansukh Laxmanbhai Mandaviya has urged state health ministers to be prepared with adequate health facilities and still be careful because Arcturus contributes to the increase of COVID-19 cases in India.
This variant has been detected in more than 20 countries so far. The World Health Organization (WHO) has been monitoring this variant and says that it is "one to watch out for".
XBB.1.16 is highly contagious but does not cause severe complications. According to the WHO report, there are currently no laboratory studies on the severity of the variant. However, an increase in hospitalizations has not been recorded, so far.
The symptoms of this subvariant are similar to the previous strain. Some of the symptoms include sore throat, fever, fatigue, cough, and stomach problems. This variant can also infect vaccinated individuals.
Spreading in Indonesia's Neighboring Countries A new variant of Arcturus or XBB.1.16 triggered a spike in cases in India. Not only in India, it turns out this variant has spread rapidly in 11 other countries including the United States, Brunei Darussalam, and Singapore. Hopefully, Indonesia will not be contaminated with this new variant.
